Best shampoos available in India in 2018 [by price]

Shampoos are one of the basic hair care essentials. Though their main ingredients have remained mostly unchanged for the best part of last decade, things have really taken a turn for the better (or worse) since 2010. Penetration of electronic media-including television and internet has reached an all-time high and more people are taking time to research the things they are using. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate/Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) has thus been given a stern way out and ayurvedic, herbal and in general, shampoos matching hair density and type are what are in high demand now.

Ok, when I said ‘or worse’, what I meant was the sheer number of shampoos available in the market. Manufacturers have released a shampoo for every possible hair class and its really getting out of hand. It’s hard to find one that suits your hair and even harder to go through all the varieties just to get the right one. Thankfully, that’s why we are here!

Here’s a list of best shampoos available in India- categorised based on their price. It must be noted that all the shampoos might not work for everyone. However, these are the ones suggested by our user to work well with a larger proportion of people.

While buying Shampoos on a budget, always make sure to check the ingredients. Chemicals such as SLS and Parabens are very common and while your hair might look good at the moment, they usually do more harm than good in the long run. Nonetheless, these compounds are necessary if you want a low priced shampoo, with obvious exceptions though.

WOW Apple Cider Vinegar Shampoo

This is one of bestselling shampoos on Amazon. It is devoid of SLS, and surfactants are mostly mild and natural. It might not lather or foam as much as the suphate shampoos, but has a smooth and better-lasting effect on the hair.

Khadi Herbal Henaa Tulsi Extra Conditioning Shampoo

Khadi natural cleansing products have been gaining lot of attention in recent years. They are SLS and Paraben-free,  and best of all, are cheaper in comparison to other herbal products.

The Khadi Henna-Tulsi, as per popular reviews, has a smooth and fizz-free effect on hair. It is also claimed to reduce hair fall.

Himalaya Herbals Anti-Hair Fall Shampoo

This is one of the more affordable options available in the market today and is thus very popular. The shampoo is free of SLS and Parabens but contain slightly milder chemicals like ammonium lauryl sulphate (ALS).

The Himalaya Anti-hair fall shampoo lathers well and is reported by many to reduce hair fall (though slowly). It might not be good for dry hair though.

Indulekha Bringha Anti Hair Fall Shampoo

This is a natural shampoo enriched by the essence of Bringhraj plant- known in Ayurveda as Kesha raj or king of hair. It also contains other natural ingredients like Neem, Tulsi and Shikakai. Since chemicals are kept to bare minimum, this is also one of the safest shampoos in this budget space.

The Indulekha Bringha shampoo has no added colours or fragrances. It is reduces hairfall to an extend and promotes hair health and natural goodness.

Shampoos with SLS– L’Oreal Paris Total Repair 5 Advanced Repairing Shampoo, Dove Intense Repair Shampoo, TRESemme Smooth & Shine Shampoo are some of the best and most affordable options in the segment. They do contain SLS though.

These shampoos produce a rich foamy lather and are less time-consuming to use. When used properly, many users have reported to have received intended effects.
